The introduction of Omnibus Series of Wudang Culture
Wudang Mountain has a long history and rich culture. In order to carry forward the excellent culture heritage the Administration Committee of Wudang Mountain Tourism and Economy Special Region invited many famous experts in Wudang culture research to compile this Omnibus series of Wudang culture on the base of twenty-year’s research. It takes experts three years to choose the best from all the literature of Wudang Mountain, to refine them and finally complete the series with more than 4,000,000 words which include ten books such as The Sacred Mountain: Wudang, The Ancient Buildings on Wudang Mountain, The History of Wudang Taoism and so on. With a reputation as Wudang encyclopedia, these books make a thorough and systematic research into Wudang Mountain, prove to be both the influential reference books and the important unit of Wudang culture. The Sacred Mountain: Wudang
Introduces the characteristics of sceneries and buildings on Wudang Mountain with gorgeous illustrations, which portrays a world famous for its beauty of nature and charm of creation.
The Ancient Buildings on Wudang Mountain
Provides readers with beautiful photos and topographies of classical buildings, reflecting the magnificent monastic complexes on Wudang Mount in a systematic way.
The History of Wudang Taoism
Covering more than two-thousand-year’s history of Wudang, analyzes the origin of Wudang Taoism, the development of Chen-wu worship and also discusses the relation of emperors in different dynasties to Wudang Taoism, famous Taoists and schools of Taoism on Wudang. As the title indicates, this book is a collection of four classic literatures on the history of Wudang Mountain in Ming Dynasty such as Ta-yueh chih-lueh (the record of Wudang Mountain) by Fang Sheng, Ta-yueh T’ai-ho shan chih (The history of Wudang Mountain) compiled by Wang Zuo, to name just two, which show how prosperous and influential Wudang Taoism was in Ming Dynasty.

II .General introduction of Wudang Tourist Region
Wudang Mountain, also called Taihe Mountain, is located in Shiyan City, Hubei Province, with the coverage of 312 kilometers. Due to its beautiful scenery, ancient buildings, Wudang Daoism and Wudang Kongfu, Wudang Mountain has received many honors such as the famous Daoism mountain, the cradle of Wudang Kongfu, the well-known national tourist region, and one of the ten summer resorts in China and so on. The ancient building complexes were taken onto the list of World Culture Heritage by UNESCO in 1994. Wudang Kongfu and Wudang Palace-temple Taoist Music were on the list of National Non-material Culture Heritage in 2006.
Wudang Mountain is the prefect combination of natural scenery and cultural buildings. Combining quietness, wonder, beauty and elegance into one, the sacred mountain is picturesque, with famous scenic spots such as seventy-two peaks, thirty-six cliffs, twenty-four valleys, eleven caves, ten stones, nine pavilions and so on. The Heavenly Pillar Peak is 1612 meters high above sea level, thus described as “one peak supports the heaven”. Wudang Mountain stands highly into the sky, bathed in bright sunshine, mysterious cloud and changing mist, which give rise to such weather wonders as Heavenly Peak knowing Sunshine, Seahorse Spitting Fog, Thunder and Lightning Tempering the Golden Palace, Tides going-up in the inland lake which portray the beauty beyond description. Entitled as “Unique scenery site, No. one celestial mountain”, Wudang Mountain receives plenty of praises for its charm from home and abroad. UNESCO officials, after having visited, said: “Ancient ingenuities, historical buildings and natural views are in harmony on Wudang Mountain…the great history of China lies in Wudang Mountain.”
The ancient buildings in Wudang Mountain are great in size and magnificent in artistic design. From Tang Dynasty to Qing Dynasty more than five hundred ancient buildings including palace, temple and shrine were constructed, achieving a harmonious unity between buildings and nature. Emperors in each period of Ming Dynasty regarded Wudang Mountain as the royal temple to maintain and construct. The features of Wudang ancient buildings are so outstanding that they were the wonders in the history of Chinese ancient architecture, finally Wudang Mountain is praised as “Chinese Ancient-Building achievement Museum”. The whole mountain is carefully protected, and there have already been sixty-two national relic-protection units.
Wudang Martial Arts, also called Wudang Internal Boxing, come form Wudang Taoist School and taken Laozi’s inactive philosophy as its theoretical basis, aiming at self-cultivation, defense and health care. It is characterized by internal cultivation rather than violence, defeating a tough rival through a soft approach, winning by attacking only after the enemy’s striking and doing goods to one’s health. It focuses on naturalness and is practiced with ease, thus establishes its own features. As the saying goes, 'Shaolin Wushu in the north is powerful, while in the south is Wudang Kongfu', Wudang Kongfu is well-known all over the world.
Wudang Taoist music, as famous as Wudang Kongfu, is mild, elegant and solemn, with the harmonious unification of melody and lyric forming special characteristics. It plays a vital role in making up the religious atmosphere, strengthening the believers’ admiration for holy land and cult of gods.
Wudang legends, folk song and custom are great in number and rich in contents, which consist of the extensive and profound Wudang culture.
Wudang Mountain is sacred.
Wudang Kongfu is splendid.
Wudang Culture is profound.
Wudang is celestial indeed.
